As blogs and bragging right’s go, this has to be the pièce de résistance. It has been one of the, if not the biggest weeks of my musical career. I know what your all thinking, I’m not the bragging type but sometimes a man has got to do what a big headed Geordie has got to do.
First up it was a little live gig called “Proms In The Park”, the BBC’s flagship music event, combining Hyde Park (London), Owain Glyndŵr Playing Fields (Caerphilly), The Titanic Slipway (Belfast) & Glasgow Green. As crowds go this is the biggest I’ve ever had to sing in front of (50,000 give or take) and what better band to do this small task with than with “The Fantasy Funk Band”. Once again it was great to meet up with the crew and for those of you who don’t know the line up it was this for Hyde Park:
Even with that amount of talent behind me there were definitely parts of my body twitching that normally don’t before a gig but as soon as we all got together for our sound check on that main stage I knew somehow we would be all right. Mr. Tony Blackburn eased the pressure a bit by calling our band every name he could find containing the words of our name in different orders before welcoming my mate Craig Charles onto the stage to do it with a plomb. Needless to say the band played their socks off and it will be a memory that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Sadly, at the moment due to copyright etc. I can't show the footage on here just yet but in the mean time here is a little taster of what the Fantasy Funk Band is all about:
